Synopsis
A family of three Andrew (son), James (father) and Jane (mother) are down on their luck after losing virtually everything to a case of bankruptcy. Forced to move into a modest apartment in a dilapidated neighborhood, Andrew is thrust into a new school where his classmates ridicule him for dressing like a pirate and his father, a new source of embarrassment, is the janitor. Wrongfully charged with destroying school property, Andrew looks to his imaginary friend and hero Captain Black Beard to help him out of the trouble but instead finds his father there to save the day. In doing so, Andrew now sees his father as he once did; his hero.

Director's Bio
Sung Yong Son comes from Seoul, South Korea where he received a B.A. degree in Mass Communication. He came to the United States four years ago to study mass communication, but decided to focus on film. He has a passion to convey his thoughts, feelings, and moods to the audience. He is very interested in family related social issues.



YASIN

Synopsis
Until 9/11, Yasin Zaki, 10, lived an ordinary life with his Jordanian-born parents in Southern California. After the attack, Yasin's life is turned upside down when the FBI arrests his father in a terrifying early morning raid. Still suffering from the trauma of his father's detention, Yasin's misfortunes are compounded at school, where he is the target of malicious and fearful accusations. Lashing out at his classmates, Yasin is increasingly unable to cope. Finally, Yasin and his mother visit his father in jail. Half believing the accusations of "terrorist," Yasin must decide whether or not to believe in his father and accept his love in the face of unanswerable questions. In the process, Yasin must gain the courage to confront the realities of life as a Muslim Arab-American in post-9/11 America.

Director's Bio
Elizabeth (Betty Lee) Kim was born in Chico, CA, of Korean immigrant parents and grew up in New York City and New Jersey. She received a BFA in painting from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, then spent five years in New York City, learning the meaning of the term "struggling artist," before returning to Ithaca to eventually earn her second Cornell degree, an MFA in fiction from CU's prestigious Creative Writing program. At Cornell she received the Charles Goodwin Sands Memorial Medal for excellence in visual art and the Arthur Lynn Andrews award in fiction. As a graduate student at USC's School of Cinema-Television she was awarded the James Bridges Scholarship for merit in directing for her work on "Yasin." Elizabeth is thrilled to be finally integrating her interests in the visual and narrative arts as a USC filmmaker.

Synopsis
Ken, a homeless boy gets into a fight with another boy on the street. Jack, the crime boss saves Ken's life and brings him home. 20 years later their relationship becomes father and son. Another crime boss tries to take over Jack's business and that causes Jack's death. Ken goes for revenge. A vengeance for his father.

Director's Bio
Eric Won was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea. He studied sculpture at Duk-Won Art High School and decided to become a filmmaker while in high school. Then he started to work in production/SFX company Young-Gu Art Entertainment as a miniature modeler. He built miniatures for a Sci-Fi Blockbuster, D-WAR, starring Jason Behr and Robert Forster. After getting out of the company he developed his skills as a sculptor and won the Gold Statue for his sculpting in the 2nd Seoul Cartoon Character Model Competition, and won 5th place the next year. He's done several sculpting commission works for various animation companies in Korea and produced his own kits. He came to the US in 2004 to achieve his goal as a filmmaker. He graduated from The Los Angeles Film School in 2006, majoring in directing. Eric has written and directed two shorts, THE BAT, THE BIRD AND THE BEAST, a psychological thriller and KEN, an action/Drama starring Karl Yune. He continues to write and direct in the future and currently developing several scripts which will be his first feature.

Synopsis
Janie, a 9-year-old girl, has a perfect life. Her parents are happily married, and she gets all of their love and attention as their only daughter. One day, her perfect life gets shattered when she discovers her family’s dark secret. Her father had a brief affair years ago and had a little boy outside of the family. Her mother, who has known this all along, has kept the family together for Janie with the arrangement that the boy is raised by his own mother. Because the boy, abandoned by his mother, unexpectedly shows up to live with Janie’s family, Janie is now forced to learn how to live and share her life with the little brother she never knew existed.

Director's Bio
Born in Korea, Christine moved to the United States by herself at the age of 16 to follow her dream as a filmmaker. She received her BA degrees in Communication Arts and English Literature from University of Wisconsin in Madison and her MFA degree in Production from USC School of Cinema & TV. She was selected to direct a commercial spot, MOVIE DATE, as one of the ten national finalists for 2004 Coca Cola Refreshing Filmmaker's Award Contest. Her next film, JOURNEY, has received Best Actress Award from 2004 Hollywood DV Festival and was screened at various festivals including 2005 Sedona International Film Festival and 2005 Los Angeles Korean International Film Festival. She has been chosen as one of the Honorees for 2005 Project Involve by Film Independent (IFP/LA). She currently lives in Los Angeles with her cat, Clarence. She hopes to tell stories that have heart by pursuing her career in directing and producing.



RENDEZ-VOUS

Synopsis
More than 200,000 Koreans have been adopted internationally. Thousands of these adoptees return to Korea every year to search for biological kin. This is one woman's experience of meeting her birth mother. Conflating the story of reunion between a long lost daughter and mother with the trajectory of an illicit affair with a married woman, Rendez-vous presents an intimate glimpse into a widespread transnational phenomenon.

Director's Bio
M. Weimer is a New York-based videomaker and artist. She has screened and exhibited her work in South Korea, Europe, and the U.S.

WAKE

Synopsis
Wake is the heartbreaking story about a 5-year-old girl who spends four days in a small apartment when her mother doesn't wake up from sleeping, and not understanding the concept of death.

Director's Bio
Born in Mok-Po, South Korea, Keun-Pyo Park has a lot of experience in directing, acting, shooting and editing both narrative and documentary short films and videos on location. His most recent credits include Wake, Mosquito Incense, and Getting to Know. Wake won Kodak Student Award Grand Prize and the American Society of Cinematographer's Student Heritage Award in 2004. Most recently, Wake played in Cannes as part of the Kodak Emerging Filmmaker Showcase. Park is currently a MFA candidate in film production at the University of Texas at Austin.
